Michael Roth (born 1970) is a political scientist and served in the German Bundestag from 1998 to 2025. From 2013 to 2021 he was Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office; from 2021 to 2025 he chaired the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee. Throughout his career he has been a determined advocate of liberal democracy, a reliable friend of Israel and an outspoken voice against antisemitism.
Today he is Managing Partner of Freedomfighter GmbH, a strategic advisory firm, and works as an author and commentator. His main areas of interest are Eastern Europe and the EU, Israel and the Middle East, the Western Balkans, transatlantic relations and China. He is the author of Zonen der Angst (“Zones of Fear”, C.H. Beck, 2025).
